Go.niu.edu is a tool that creates a shorter version of a URL (webpage address). It’s similar to other link shorteners like TinyURL or Bitly, but retains the niu.edu domain. Each Go URL begins with “go.niu.edu/” followed by a custom word or phrase. Go URLs can be set to link to any NIU webpage.
For example, when you click on go.niu.edu/transfer (or type it in your browser), you land on the transfer admissions webpage, because the Go URL was set to link to that page.
The benefits of using Go URLs include:
- Retaining the niu.edu domain for branding consistency
- Providing a URL on print pieces that is easy for people to read and use
- Providing a stable reference for linking to content that is updated frequently

You can only modify Go URLs that you’ve created. For assistance with URLs you did not create, contact webcommunications@niu.edu.
Catalog Go URLs
If you need to provide a link to a page or section of the undergraduate or graduate catalog, use the catalog shortcut links maintained by the web team. Doing so will ensure you’re always linking to the current course catalog with links that won’t need to be updated every year.
