Improve Your Website with Self-audit

We’re your partner in creating a consistent, positive online presence for NIU. By increasing the accuracy and usability of our webpages, we can better earn our audience’s trust. With our new self-audit requirement, you’ll have an active role in increasing our users’ confidence and interest in NIU.

Accuracy and Credibility

According to the user experience experts at the Nielsen Norman Group, “Websites must establish trust and present themselves as credible to turn visitors into customers.” They identify design quality as one of four factors that affect website credibility, noting that “Typos, broken links, and other mistakes quickly degrade credibility and communicate an overall lack of attention to detail.”

The impact that errors and outdated content can have on your site can’t be ignored: According to recent research, 81% of parents of prospective students said that a poorly designed website reduces their confidence in the university.

Increase Credibility with Self-audit

As the content expert for your area, you understand your audience and their needs. Our self-audit process will guide you through identifying important changes that need to be made to your site.

We’ll send you an email when it’s time to complete your self-audit. We’ll provide a checklist of issues to look for on your pages. You’ll be searching for broken links, outdated information and other potential concerns. You’ll have four weeks to complete the audit and send us the results. Then, we’ll help address any issues you identified or concerns you have.

Thank you for your partnership in making the NIU website an effective, inviting source of information for our audiences. If you have any questions, please contact us at webcommunications@niu.edu.
