In March, the new Accessibility at NIU website was launched. The site provides accessibility guidance and resources to the NIU community, helping promote equity and inclusion on campus and in the university’s online spaces. We encourage you to review the site and welcome your feedback. If you have any questions about accessibility at NIU, please email accessibility@niu.edu.
Centralized Information
Accessibility affects every part of the university, from teaching and learning to procurement and other daily operations. The new accessibility website provides a centralized location for information that was previously spread across multiple units and websites, providing a single starting point for members of the campus community to learn more about accessibility and incorporate its principles into their tasks and routines.
Site Highlights
The accessibility website is designed to be practical and easy to use, providing actionable information for the NIU community. The site includes processes for:
- Requesting accommodations
- Creating accessible digital content and documents
- Purchasing accessible technology
It also includes an overview of accessibility resources for students, employees, families and visitors.
How to Use the Site
- Bookmark it as your primary accessibility resource.
- Refer to it when planning new/updated web content, digital documents or online tools.
- Share it with colleagues involved in creating web content and/or course materials.
The site will be updated as guidelines evolve and new resources become available, and we hope you’ll visit regularly. Thank you for helping create a more inclusive NIU community.
